SRCHN GOVERNANCE
The Board has fiduciary responsibility, dealing with the constitution, by-laws, financial issues and budgeting, human resources and providing the general direction the organization should take. The Board normally meets monthly.
Annemieke Holthuis (President) had a 30-year career with the Department of Justice Canada advising on domestic and international criminal law reforms and Canada’s human rights obligations. Annemieke also served in various board governance roles in her community, including serving as President of the Board of Directors, Centretown Community Health Centre, an Ottawa based CHC.
Mary Dunn (Vice-President) has spent her career working in the community as a nurse and manager of the medical and counselling services in a CHC in Ottawa for 12 years, and then for 17 years as a Public Health Nurse in the Sooke Region.
Sherry Thompson (Treasurer) is the Executive Director of the Sooke Shelter Society, which she helped to co-found in 2017. Born and raised in Sooke, Sherry’s values of human rights and passion to be a part of the solutions to make the world a better place for future generations is very important to her.
Steve Anderson (Secretary) has worked as residential home painter for the past 34 years. Steve’s community involvement includes volunteering for the Sooke Harbour Players (including five years as its president), six years as the theater co-ordinator of the Sooke community theatre and serving as Director at Large with the Edward Milne Community School Society Board.
Dr. Roy Brown
worked as a psychologist in the field of disability and had a long and rewarding career in academic research and teaching at universities in the UK, Canada, and Australia. Locally, he is now a board member of the Sooke and Juan de Fuca Health Foundation and Chair of the Age Friendly Committee.
Carol Pinalski worked in various business roles before she and her husband incorporated their own business Pino-Lite Glass Ltd. Carol was its office manager from 1993 until her retirement. An advocate for services for seniors, Carol served as the President of the then Sooke Seniors Drop-in Centre from 2006 until 2017.
Tara Munro is the owner and Clinical Director of Sea to Tree Health & Wellness, which provides affordable mental health and wellness services at locations in Sooke and Victoria. Tara has her master’s in counselling and has 20+ years of local non-profit experience and management as well as working in rural and remote Indigenous communities throughout BC.
Rose Dumont is a dedicated and passionate community leader born and raised in Sooke. Rose is a Councillor of the T’Sou-ke First Nation and is the Health Director, T’Sou-ke Nation Health Centre. Rose and her husband are also co-owners of a thriving local business.
Rick Robinson is a retired senior healthcare executive with extensive experience in health care planning and organizational leadership. He currently serves as a founding board member on the Sooke and Juan de Fuca Health Foundation, South Island Division of Family Practice’s Collaborative Services Committee, Western Communities Patient Care Network Operations Committee, and the District of Sooke’s Primary Health Care Working Group.
Nicky Logins retired from 15 years as Executive Director at Sooke Family Resource Society where she had the privilege of developing non-profit programs with lasting positive impact for local families. A resident of the Sooke Region since 1979, Nicky is passionate about improving wellness in our communities. Nicky has served on several local boards, and continues in that role currently with SRCHN, the Sooke Food Bank and the Sooke Martial Arts Association.
Anne Bell has worked for the Sooke School District since 1973 and is currently the Community School Coordinator at Edward Milne Community School. She has worked on a multitude of elected Boards (holding every position from chair to director) and served on many committees over her working and personal life.
Seeking New Board Members and Advisors!
Sooke Region Communities Health Network is working on two larger projects: Sooke Gathering Place, a seniors’ drop-in centre, under the Elders Complex; and the Sooke Region Community Health Centre to open in 2025.
We are looking for people who are passionate about Sooke Region and have previous experience as a Board member or experience in overseeing development projects, finance and accounting backgrounds.
